Connect Sports Academy’s first national Under 18 rugby player made his maiden appearance in the green and gold of South Africa on Tuesday.
Lukhanyo ‘Boepa’ Vokozela took on Wales as part of the SA Schools A side at Paarl Gimnasium, in a 31-31 International Series draw.
The squad faces one more task in the competition on Saturday, as they face Argentina in Wellington.
Boepa is not Connect’s only SA international
Our leading senior athlete, Sesethu Mtshazi (pictured below, left), made her first appearances for the South African women’s rugby sevens side earlier in 2019.
Sese featured for the Lady Blitzboks in a brace of tournaments as well as in a series of friendly fixtures against World Series nation Brazil.
Combining her rugby with the second year of her degree course at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Sese is pushing for a second consecutive Currie Cup title with Western Province.
She has also received call-ups to Springboks training camps during the year, as our 21-year-old pushes for further international honours.
